Birth of Exxon Station

Exxon Station is Born

Early on in the formation of the Avalon colony, it was obvious that the few working space craft at our disposal would be our earliest lifeline. To keep them running, a reliable source of fuel must be established
While Avalon proper has lots of water, and could produce a near limitless supply of fuel, the fact that all the fuel would be at the bottom of a 1g gravity well, makes getting said fuel a lot slower and more costly
It was decided to re-purpose one of the original Fusion power plants from the Sagan to run a small space station in orbit around Ringo. The purpose of the station was to produce fuel. Lots of it. The station began its life as nothing more than a giant skateboard shaped plank of steel trusses with a deck on top. It looks a lot like the flight deck of an old style aircraft carrier
On the deck is an airtight and gravity provided building. Inside the building are the reactor, accommodations for up to 10 crew (though a normal crew is only 3) and a fuel processing plant. The plant was the first one produced on Avalon after their arrival.
Also on the deck were docking stations for up to three huge removable fuel tanks. Each one can hold 10,000 liters of refined fuel and can be dropped off and picked up by any ship with a standard docking clamp.
Due to the number of small ships that have been built over the years, the station tends to have a tanker picked up every day or two.
Recently, due to all the increased piracy in the system, 4 missile launchers have been added to the depot as incentive to them to bugger right the hell off.
